No Shortcuts, No Quick Fixes - Just Good Coaching and Sweat
At the Drayson Quarterback Academy, we believe in developing complete players. We don't offer tips or quick fixes, and if that's what you want then this isn't the place for you. We offer a complete system of playing the position, a complete approach to developing the skills and abilities necessary to succeed.
The Scaffolding Approach
Skills don't occur within a vacuum - throwing mechanics have to be tied to footwork, footwork has to be tied to reads, and so on. Our coaching method is built around creating a foundation of skills that function well together. If we build a quarterback's throwing mechanics with his right foot being in a certain position, but when he hits the back of his drop his right foot isn't in that position, then he won't be able to utilize the same throwing motion we taught. So, we make sure we link each skill to whatever other skills affect it. When we teach throwing mechanics and the position of the feet, it matches where we're going to put the quarterback's feet in his drops. What the scaffolding approach means is that each skill is built in conjunction with the ones that surround it. This is what it means to have a complete system of playing the position. Other places can offer tips, but we truly coach our guys.
Comprehensive Services
There's more to developing a quarterback than just on-field drills and work. We handle all aspects of quarterback development. Beyond quarterback specific drill work, we offer sport nutrition, strength and conditioning, physical therapy, film and whiteboard sessions, and mental performance development. We want to ensure we use every tool possible to give our quarterbacks the biggest gains every chance they get. Just like discussed above, we don't play football in a vacuum. What we do in the weight room affects our throwing mechanics; how we eat affects how we perform; we take care of everything that goes into developing a quarterback.
Deeper Insight
Our research allows us to dig deeper into the underlying issues affecting quarterback play. Many coaches address symptoms, not root causes. We use our in-depth Biomechanical Integrity Analysis as a starting point for fundamentals, giving us a complete understanding of how your body functions and what restrictions it might have. We can translate that into how it might affect your throwing mechanics, footwork, etc, correct the restrictions, and re-train you to use your body properly. While some coaches might be able to tell you that you need to use your legs more, only we can tell you why you're not using your legs properly, fix the restriction, and then fix your mechanics.
Our in-depth research also applies to kinetic energy transfer, training our players to transfer power from the ground up, creating consistent velocity and decreasing the over toll on the arm. All of our quarterbacks develop a solid understanding of how to create power and transfer speed and torque throughout their motion, and through this learning become able to self correct even when a coach isn't around to help them.
